Ingredients:
1 lb ground beef
1 small onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup tomato sauce
1/2 cup ketchup
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar
Salt and pepper, to taste
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
4 slices of provolone or mozzarella cheese
4-6 garlic bread slices (store-bought or homemade)
2 tablespoons butter, melted
1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
Instructions:
Cook the Ground Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon. Drain any excess fat.
Add Onion and Garlic:
Add the diced onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
Prepare the Sloppy Joe Sauce:
Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, oregano, basil, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using). Season with salt and pepper to taste. Let the mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.
Toast the Garlic Bread:
While the Sloppy Joe mixture simmers, preheat your oven’s broiler. Place the garlic bread slices on a baking sheet and brush them with melted butter. Toast under the broiler for 1-2 minutes until golden brown. Keep an eye on them to avoid burning.
Assemble the Sloppy Joes:
Once the sauce is ready, spoon the Sloppy Joe mixture onto the garlic bread slices. Top each with a slice of cheese.
Melt the Cheese:
Return the assembled Sloppy Joes to the broiler for another 1-2 minutes, just until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Garnish and Serve:
Remove from the oven, garnish with fresh parsley if desired, and serve immediately.
Enjoy your Cheesy Garlic Bread Sloppy Joes!
