Spaghetti and Meatballs
Classic Italian Spaghetti with Juicy Meatballs
Ingredients:
1 pound spaghetti
1 pound ground beef
1/2 pound ground pork
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
1 egg, beaten
Salt and pepper to taste
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 large onion, chopped
1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
Directions:
Cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente.
Drain and set aside.
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic, parsley, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
Shape the mixture into 1-inch meatballs.
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 7-8 minutes. Remove the meatballs and set aside.
In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
Add the crushed tomatoes, oregano, and red pepper flakes to the skillet. Bring to a simmer.
Return the meatballs to the skillet, cover, and let simmer for 20 minutes, until the meatballs are cooked through.
Stir in the fresh basil just before serving.
Serve the meatballs and sauce over the cooked spaghetti, garnishing with extra Parmesan and basil if desired.
