Classic Caramel Layer Cake
Decadent Caramel Layer Cake with Buttercream Frosting
Ingredients:
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 ½ cups granulated sugar
1 ¼ cups unsalted butter, softened
4 large eggs
1 cup whole milk
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ teaspoon salt
1 ½ cups caramel sauce (divided)
3 cups powdered sugar
¼ cup heavy cream
Pinch of sea salt (optional)
Directions:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
Line the bottoms with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Stir in the vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture.
Mix until just combined.
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Once the cakes are completely cool, spread ½ cup of caramel sauce over the top of one of the cake layers. Place the second layer on top and frost the entire cake with buttercream frosting.
To make the buttercream frosting, beat the softened butter in a large bowl until creamy.
Gradually add the powdered sugar, alternating with the heavy cream, until the frosting is smooth and fluffy.
Add a pinch of sea salt and the remaining caramel sauce, then mix until well combined.
Pour the remaining caramel sauce over the top of the cake, allowing it to drip down the sides for a beautiful finish. Optional: Sprinkle with sea salt for an extra touch of flavor.
