Fluffy Southern-Style Butter Buttermilk Biscuits
Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar
6 tablespoons unsalted butter, cold and cubed
3/4 cup buttermilk, cold
1 tablespoon melted butter (for brushing)
Directions:
Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients.
Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
Pour in the cold buttermilk and gently mix until the dough just comes together.
Be careful not to overwork the dough.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently pat it into a rectangle about 1-inch thick. Fold the dough over itself a few times to create layers.
Using a biscuit cutter or a round glass, cut out biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
Gather the remaining dough, gently pat it out again, and cut out more biscuits until all the dough is used.
Brush the tops of the biscuits with melted butter and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top.
Serve warm with additional butter, honey, or jam.
